What to Expect When I Contact SACL?
When you contact SACL, you will speak with a trained Counsellor/Advocate in a private and confidential space.
The worker will listen and believe you, offering support and information to assist in exploring your feelings, concerns, and options. You can remain anonymous if you wish.
The 1800 number is a free-call from landlines, but not from a mobile. If you call from a mobile and would prefer to be called back, please ask the worker to call you back.
You are in control of what you choose to share. You do not need to tell your full story or go into detail about the assault.
Given we are an after-hours phone service, our focus is on immediate support and stabilisation, rather than in-depth therapeutic work.
SACL is also the central coordinating service of an after-hours crisis care response for victim-survivors. SACL Counsellor/Advocates will provide support and advocacy for the victim-survivor during this process, and in the coordination of the following services:
- Rights and options
- Assistance to obtain a forensic medical examination and other medical testing
- Advocacy with police and medical professionals
- Referral for longer-term face-to-face counselling and support options.
